Zinc deficiency is prevalent in the world today, espeìcially in the elderly. Zinc is used in approximately 300 enzymatic reactions in the body, and is the second most abundant trace mineral in the body.
It is a micromineral, therefore only small amounts are required in the body. However, as it is present in all tissues, sufficient amounts are vital for overall physical and mental health.
Zinc supports immune system function, and is involved in the maintenance of healthy bones, hair, skin, nails and vision. It helps support the structure of the membranes (outer wall) of the body’s cells, and is also important for the sense of smell and taste.
It supports cardiovascular (heart) and neurological (brain) health and enhances the action of vitamin D. It is essential for fertility and reproduction, especially so in men (increasing zinc levels in infertile men has been shown to boost sperm levels). In women, zinc is required for production of healthy eggs and correct reproduction function.

Zinc has also been seen to help improve night vision by assisting the transportation of vitamin A to the retina. Additionally, zinc helps balance blood sugar levels.
The addition of B vitamins can enhance the absorption of zinc.
Zinc should be taken separately from calcium, copper, iron, and soy supplementation, as it can interfere with absorption of these nutrients. Therefore, ensure to take zinc at a different time of day from these other supplements.
As a dietary supplement, adults take one (1) tablet daily.
For best results, take 30 mins before a meal with a glass of water, or as directed by a healthcare professional.
