Vitamin C, also known as L-ascorbic acid, is essential for many of the body's systems and their proper functioning. The immune system, however, is particularly reliant on this vitamin for its correct functioning. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant which helps regenerate other antioxidants in the body such as alpha-tocopherol (vitamin E), glutathione, uric acid ( a major antioxidant in human plasma).
Vitamin C helps boost collagen synthesis which is an essential component of connective tissue and plays a vital role in wound healing. It is important for hair, nail and skin health, and assists in carnitine synthesis, which helps break down fatty acids and release energy.
Vitamin C is water-soluble, meaning it is eliminated from the body the same day it is ingested. It is involved in the production of serotonin, a neurotransmitter involved in many important functions in the brain, including mood and appetite. It is also needed for the production of progesterone (a famous female hormone). It has been seen to help lower triglycerides and enhance the body's absorption of iron.
It is most famous for bolstering the immune system and increasing the number of white blood cells and interferons, proteins that can help fight viruses, infections and disease.
Research shows that diabetics should take vitamin C - taking 1000mg daily can help reduce the risk of complications. Vitamin C and glucose enter the cells via the same pathways. As a result, vitamin C will compete with glucose to enter the cells.
Take one (1) to two (2) capsules per day. Just before meals, preferably in the morning at breakfast.
Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct light.
Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.
