Niacin is part of the vitamin B complex and is also known as vitamin B3. It is a water-soluble vitamin, which is needed for the metabolism of carbohydrates and fats, the correct function of the nervous and digestive systems, and the maintenance of healthy skin. It has been seen to have positive effects on cholesterol levels and is integral to maintaining a healthy cardiovascular system.
In addition, Niacin may help with brain function, providing the energy needed to convert cholesterol into pregnenolone (a hormone that helps support memory, among other things). Niacin is also used in the metabolism of tryptophan and serotonin.
No-flush Niacin contains a specific form of niacin, consisting of six niacin molecules (inositol hexanicotinate) that are chemically linked to a single inositol molecule.
The unique properties found in this no-flush niacin supplement allows it to function correctly, providing all the benefits of niacin but without the characteristic niacin itchy, flushing reaction that is intolerable to so many people.
There are various ‘extended-release’ niacin supplements available on the market which are not the same as inositol hexanicotinate. These extended-release supplements also help avoid the flushing reaction, but they may be fairly taxing on the liver.
Niacin is used in at least 40 chemical reactions in the body and supports the activities of numerous powerful enzymes throughout the body which are needed for the manufacture of the sex hormones and correct adrenal gland function.
The inositol, a pseudovitamin, found within this compound, acts to slow down the absorption of niacin avoiding overtaxing the liver, making it easier on the body, without the flushing reaction seen in regular niacin supplements.
As a dietary supplement, adults take one capsule, one to two times daily with meals, or as directed by a healthcare professional.

Taking a high dosage of a single vitamin B may cause an imbalance between the other vitamins Bs in your system, therefore, you may wish to consider taking a B vitamin complex rather than take each B vitamin separately. A lack of just one single B vitamin can impact overall health as each B vitamin plays a specific role in the body.
