An essential amino acid which is a precursor to serotonin and melatonin helping to promote peaceful sleep
L-Tryptophan - converts into serotonin and melatonin which is why many people find it an effective sleep aid
Tryptophan is an essential amino acid used to make protein. It is a precursor to serotonin and melatonin, helping to increase their production, which is why many people find it an effective sleep aid.
A serotonin imbalance is thought to be involved in the development of anxiety disorders and depression - by replenishing these levels, it may help alleviate these issues.
Tryptophan breaks down into serotonin, a calming neurotransmitter that may help stabilise mood. It is needed for the production of vitamin B3 (niacin), it helps boost growth hormone, and may help suppress appetite.
As with most amino acid supplements, your body needs vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) as a cofactor to ensure correct amino acid metabolism. To help rule out any possible deficiency of L-Tryptophan you may wish to take a vitamin B complex alongside L-Tryptophan
- Most amino acids come in two forms; D- or L- (such as L-tyrosine or D-tyrosine). D-amino acid is a mirror image of the L- amino acid - in other words the D- form is a backward image
- Both can be taken. However, the L- form is preferable as it is the exact image of the amino acid in its natural form found in the body. The L- form is considered the more effective for overall human health
