Homocysteine Health
- Three major vitamins to help normalise homocysteine levels
- Supports heart and brain health
- Helps reduce heart attack and stroke risk
Homocysteine is a naturally occurring amino acid, produced in the body as part of the methylation process. The level of homocysteine in the blood are becoming increasingly recognised as a risk factor for ill health and diseases such as heart disease and Alzheimer’s, and even osteoporosis.
Homocysteine metabolism and regulation has been seen to be highly dependent on vitamin derived cofactors and deficiencies. Folic acid, vitamin B12, and vitamin B6 work in tandem and may effectively help normalise homocysteine levels.
Other factors thought to impact homocysteine levels are poor diet and lifestyle, in particular smoking, high coffee and alcohol intake, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, poor thyroid function, and certain prescription drugs.
Folic acid, vitamin B12, and vitamin B6 work in tandem and may effectively help normalise homocysteine levels.
